Super Street Fighter IV, the biggest fighting game in America now for two years running is the headline game at the Northeast Championships this year. So many people are playing in the tournament that the tournament is required to be played over multiple days. Being an unmitigated success at retail (the original version sold over two million copies and the update moved one and a half million itself) and having a tournament at Evolution this year of over 1,600 people, the game has sparked a revival in the entire genre and the fighting game community in America. With a focus on more traditional fundamentals, the game has allowed a lot of new players to learn how to play fighting games while providing fresh material for people who have been playing a decade or more. Super Street Fighter IV at the Northeast Championships this year is expected to be the biggest tournament in the history of the series, and the intensity of the competition is going to be off the charts.
